In the 1950’s Joe Stevens earned his name as one of the best high school and college basketball players in Wichita. Joe Stevens was a member of the 1954 North HS team that emerged victorious against the Kansas City Wyandotte, with a score of 63-55.
When Joe Stevens first started attending the Wichita State University freshmen were not allowed to play on the basket ball team. However, the three years that he did get the chance to play; he accumulated a total of 1,295 points. His point total has managed to rank him in Wichita State University top 20 of all time, among players who had the chance to play for the entire four years of their college life as opposed to the three that Joe Stevens got. Throughout the duration of his career, he averaged 16.6 points per game.
Johnny Stevens goes down in sporting history as the only golfer in Kansas to win state crowns in three different age brackets. Johnny Stevens managed to attain the Kansas Junior Championship in 1960, in the years of 1960 and 1962 he managed to secure the Amateur Championship, and finally, he received the Senior Amateur Champion ship in the years of 1993 and 2008.

Lynette Woodard was one of Wichita’s most formidable athletes, who made her debut in the sporting world in 1984; when she U.S. team to the goal medal in the Olympic Games. Lynette Woodard then went on to make history as the year of 1985, when she signed on as the first woman star of the world-famous Harlem Globetrotters. In the year of 1988, with the help of Lynette Woodard, the U.S. team immerged victorious in the University Games.
Lynette Wood reached the age of 37 in the year of 1997; the same year that she joined the Women’s National Basketball Association and went on to play for Cleveland and Detroit. Woodard made the decision to retire from her career as an athlete in the year of 1999; she then became an assistant coach for the women’s team at KU in the year of 2000.
